Some paintings seem to have a life of their own, and Wild Irises is one of them. 💜
I created this watercolor for a dear friend who loves irises. After finding the perfect inspiration, I drew the entire composition by hand—no tracing—and painted it using professional-grade watercolors on Arches 100% cotton watercolor paper.
What captivated me most were the delicate, ruffled edges of the petals and the dance between the light and the shadows. Every layer revealed something new, inviting me to slow down and really see these beautiful flowers.
If I'm being honest, there was a point during this painting when I almost gave up. I was experimenting with a new background technique, convinced I had ruined the entire piece. Thankfully, my daughter encouraged me to keep going. I'm so grateful she did.
When I finally shared the finished painting, I was surprised by the response. So many people told me they could almost see the flowers swaying in the breeze. That was the greatest compliment I could have received.
Because so many people connected with Wild Irises, I decided to offer museum-quality giclée prints so others could enjoy them as well.
